Tuesday Toot 6/3/08: 3 Toots in All!

I kinda fell off my Toot Wagon! Ooops! May is such a busy month in our house. I think 95% of our family members were born in this month. :)

So my Tuesday Toot is actually a multitude of Toots.
#1: I am back on the Toot Wagon! I love blog hopping and seeing what everyone is up to!

#2: A major delayed reaction, but I won a random prize drawing during Mommy Fest. I didn't even notice! (You can put the "L" sign on your forehead for me...I know.)

#3: Last night, I experimented with my first blog template from outside of Blogger. It was a bit unnerving - I am not fond of the even the remote idea that I could lose everything I have on my blog. I followed the directions I found on random sites, one of which is here. However, I could not seem to get the code change to work that would allow me to keep my widgets and rearrange them later. Try as I might, it just didn't work, and at 11pm, I feared my tired mommy brain would fail. I could just see accidentally hitting "save changes" and thus losing all of my widgets, links, ads, etc. Blogger suicide IMO! I did take snapshots of my blog so that I have it in the event that I would lose it, but let's go there. So, I stopped and may try again. Anyone have any tips with this?

Happy Tooting everyone! Thanks for stopping!

Hi!
Hopefully this will help:

To fiddle around with changes, I started a new 'fake' blog that I keep private.

I put a couple posts on it (they literally say "blah blah blah") and instead of a blogroll of other bloggers, who would want to see where their links are posted and may not be thrilled to have their links on a private site, I just make up a list of major websites that won't care if I link to them or not. (Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, etc.)

I use this fake blog to dink around with the template, HTML, and other stuff that could potentially kill my real blogs. If I destroy this practice blog all I have to do is revert back to a default template and it wipes out the mess so I can start over again.

Being paranoid, once I find a winner, I go to the blog I want to change. I copy and paste all the HTML into a separate document like Notepad, (and save it!) before copying and pasting the HTML of my fake blog into the existing blog. Before I save it, I hit preview to make sure it looks right. If it works, I hit Save. If it's a dud, I hit Cancel.

Hope that helps!

...and I'm glad you won one of my plates at Mommyfest! I'll swing by my favorite bakery with the plate first thing tomorrow morning to load it up with M&M cookies, then send it out to you -
